A Secret Meeting in Hanoi
"Could you arrange to arrest this American target of yours by the weekend?" A casual observer might have mistaken the two men strolling through Ba Dinh Square as father and son, such was the difference in their ages. Scheming against Robert Anderson? Something is fishy here, and not just the nouc maum sauce. Why is a senior colonel in Vietnam's secretive Ministry of Public Security meeting clandestinely with the defense attache of the People's Republic of China? I thought they were historic enemies. This bears watching.

A bit of history: In AD 40, the revered Trung Sisters led an early revolt against Chinese occupiers from the north. For almost 2,000 years since that event, China and Vietnam sporadically have battled over control of the territory called Vietnam.

As recently as 1979, they fought a 17-day mini-war along Vietnam's northern border. Future confrontations may occur over oil and fishing rights in the Paracel and Spratly Islands, claimed by both countries.
