"Is something wrong?" Jenny said after he climbed in. "You've got the strangest look on your face." "It's nothing," he lied, not wanting to invite questions that he wouldn't answer. But he admitted the truth to himself. It looked like the dead cop had a backup.

After stopping near Xuan Loc, about 45 miles (straight line) east of Saigon on Highway 1, Anderson realizes he's not out of the woods as he hoped.  Another government agent is on his tail.

A bit of history: With American forces withdrawn, North Vietnam launched a massive offensive across the 17th parallel in January 1975. Expecting that the war would last another two years, the invaders were surprised when South Vietnam's army (ARVN) disintegrated. By April, they had attacked south from Nha Trang along Highway 1 and were poised in front of Xuan Loc. There, the 18th ARVN division mounted the only serious defense of the campaign. The monument portrays a NVA soldier and a woman, presumably a National Liberation Front (Vietcong) fighter.
